Man Dead, Woman Seriously Injured After Donegal Crash
Gardaí are seeking witnesses and camera footage as investigators examine the scene and a coroner prepares a post-mortem after the crash.
On Sunday, August 2, 2026, a man in his 20s died following a collision between a car and a 4x4 vehicle on the R232 at Fincashel, Pettigo, Co Donegal, at approximately 2:45pm.
The car's passenger, a woman in her 20s, was hospitalized with serious injuries, while the driver of the 4x4, a man in his 60s, was taken to hospital for assessment.
Garda Forensic Collision Investigators have closed the R232 for examination, and officials are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dash cam footage to contact Ballyshannon Garda Station at 071 985 8530.
Earlier on Sunday, a separate crash in Ballyknockan, Co Carlow, killed a motorcyclist in his 40s, bringing total Irish road fatalities to 110 this year, tracking well above 2025 levels.
A Garda roads-policing operation involving checkpoints and intoxicant testing remains in place across the State until Tuesday August 4, supporting road safety enforcement.
