Man charged with assisting offender over Jewish ambulance arson
Police say Ahmed arranged to scrap his car to help others avoid arrest, as investigators link the blaze to £1m in damage and five charges.
On Monday, June 8, London's Metropolitan Police charged 18-year-old Subhan Ahmed with assisting an offender in connection with the March 23 arson attack that destroyed four Hatzola Northwest ambulances in Golders Green.
Four others—Hamza Iqbal, 20, Rehan Khan, 19, Judex Atshatski, 18, and a 17-year-old boy—were previously charged in April with committing arson and endangering life in the same incident.
Counterterror police are investigating the fire, which caused about £1 million in damage, as an antisemitic hate crime and examining alleged ties to an Iran-connected group.
Ahmed was bailed to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on June 16, while the five defendants face trial in January 2027 with a hearing scheduled for August 28.
The Metropolitan Police reported a 72% rise in antisemitic hate crimes across London during May, with this attack occurring amid a broader surge in local incidents targeting the Jewish community.
