Man Asleep in Tent on WA Beach Mauled by Crocodile
Authorities say the man suffered significant but not life-threatening injuries and is now undergoing surgery after the attack, the region’s second in less than five months.
- On Saturday, a man in his 20s was mauled by a "large crocodile" while sleeping at a remote campsite near Hidden Creek, about 50km north of Broome.
- Medical responders transported the victim to Royal Perth Hospital on Sunday for surgery, where he remains in a stable condition as of Tuesday.
- Following notification on Monday, the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions confirmed it was investigating and will conduct a site visit to the remote beach.
- This marks the second crocodile attack in the region within five months, prompting officials to urge locals and visitors to remain "Crocwise" near all water bodies.
- Across the Kimberley, saltwater crocodiles are active year-round, leading the DBCA to advise that visitors camp at least 50 metres from the shoreline for safety.
