Man, 23, shot to death on N.J. city street, cops say

A man was shot to death early Saturday morning on an Elizabeth city street, authorities said. Police responded to the shooting near Caldwell Place, just a block away from the Union County Courthouse. Officers on the scene located Franklin Mendez, 23, of Elizabeth, who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound, the Union County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement.
