Some 18,500 women die of breast cancer every year in Germany. According to experts, mammography prevents thousands of deaths.
With mammography screenings, breast cancer can be detected earlier, which increases the chances of healing. The president of the Federal Office for Radiation Protection explains that the benefits of screenings are underestimated.
