Mamdani signs order ‘repealing bedtimes’ so kids can watch Knicks in NBA Finals
The order lets children watch the Knicks’ 8:30 p.m. ET Finals games as the team chases its first NBA title since 1973.
On Monday, Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani signed an executive order repealing bedtimes in New York City during the NBA Finals, allowing students to watch the New York Knicks compete for the championship.
With each NBA Finals game tipping off at 8:30 p.m. ET, the mayor sought to remove obstacles for young fans. Mamdani wrote on X, "This was not one of them," referring to difficult mayoral decisions.
At City Hall, Mamdani finalized the order alongside a group of students who 'signed' the document with their handprints. The text declares bedtimes should not impede "New York's Cutest" from cheering for their team.
The executive order also includes lyrics from a popular 1993 team anthem, "Go New York Go New York Go," reflecting the city's excitement for the Knicks' first championship run since 1999.
New York faces the San Antonio Spurs beginning Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC 7, as the team seeks its first championship since 1973. Game 1 and 2 will be hosted in San Antonio before the series shifts to New York.
