Mariam Cissé, with nearly 100,000 TikTok followers, was publicly executed after being accused of informing jihadists' movements to the Malian army, authorities said.
- On November 6, Islamist fighters allegedly from Jama'at Nusrat al-Islam wa al-Muslimeen abducted Mariam Cissé in Tonka and executed her the next day at Independence Square, mayor Yehia Tandina said.
- Mariam Cissé, a TikTok influencer with over 100,000 followers, regularly posted pro-army videos and her brother said jihadists arrested her Thursday, accusing her of informing the Malian army.
- Seized while live-streaming at a market in Echel, she was moved to Tonka by motorbike and shot at Independence Square while her brother was in the crowd.
- The killing shocked Mali, and on Sunday AU Commission chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf expressed concern over security, while France advised citizens to leave on Friday.
- Amid a two-month fuel blockade, Jama'at Nusrat al-Islam wa al-Muslimeen has recently tightened its grip, besieging Bamako and worsening daily life in Mali.
