On 6 August, the head of the Malian junta launched a large-scale operation of arrests within the army. Suspected of preparing for a destabilization of power in place, some 50 officers, including at least two generals, were arrested. This case reveals internal dissension between the military, but also between the perpetrators of the 2020 coup d'état.

The military junta in power in Mali since 2021 has arrested dozens of army officers over the weekend. The charge against these members of the Armed Forces would be to organize a new coup to take down the military government led by Colonel Asmi Goita. A number of rallies would have taken at least 40 officers and petty officers of Bamako's army to prison, but no official statement on the incident has yet been issued.
