Malahat Legion celebrates 100 years on July 17
Membership is free until year-end as the branch celebrates 100 years with awards, a barbecue dinner and a special commemorative medal for 16 members.
The Malahat Legion Branch celebrates its 100th anniversary on July 17, marking a century of service to Veterans, remembrance, and the community.
To honor the milestone, The Legion is offering free Membership until year-end, after which annual fees return to $60, boosting enrollment from 350 to over 600 members.
Legion Honours and Awards officer James Heath selected 16 members to receive commemorative medals, including recipient Nora Smart, who turns 100 years old this year.
The ceremony kicks off at 3 p.m. with a barbecue dinner, cake cutting, and live Music at 7 p.m., made possible by funding from the Dominion Command in Ottawa.
Heath hopes the Branch remains vibrant with continued Membership growth, drawing on 35 years of personal involvement in the Nov. 11 Remembrance Day Ceremony and ongoing support for Frances Kelsey Secondary scholarships.
