UK Airline that Offered 200 Flights per Day to Disappear for Good After 29 Years
Administrators will sell the airline’s assets after a failed rescue bid left 330 jobs at risk, following the loss of its KLM contract.
Eastern Airways is set to permanently cease operations after 29 years as a potential rescue deal for the carrier and affiliate Air Kilroe Limited collapsed, leaving administrators to sell off assets.
The airline suffered financial distress following the loss of a contract with KLM; joint administrator Jamie Miller explained the 'unexpected and sudden termination' of that agreement left directors with no choice but to appoint administrators.
At its peak, the carrier operated 200 flights daily across the UK, Ireland, and Europe, employing around 330 staff members with primary hubs at Aberdeen and Humberside Airport in North Lincolnshire.
Consumer & Markets Director Selina Chadha at the Civil Aviation Authority urged passengers to avoid airports, stating "We urge passengers planning to fly with this airline not to go to the airport as all Eastern Airways flights are cancelled."
Eastern Airways joins multiple UK carriers entering administration in 2026, marking a challenging year for regional aviation as the industry faces sustained financial pressures.
