GCSEs 2025: Big change coming as results day moves 'into 21st Century' - what you need to know
- The Department for Education has revealed that this summer approximately 95,000 GCSE students in select areas of North West and Central England will participate in an expanded trial of the Education Record app to receive their exam results digitally.
- This trial follows last summer’s initial pilot at Hathershaw College and aims to modernize results day by reducing administrative burdens and allowing digital access to results.
- Pupils can access their results digitally on August 21, 2025, around 11 a.m., but can still opt to pick up physical results at school from 8 a.m. If preferred.
- Education Minister Stephen Morgan stated that modernizing exam records is long overdue, highlighting that the pilot program aims to reduce administrative burdens so schools can concentrate more on teaching.
- The Department expects the full rollout to save schools up to £30 million annually, funding over 600 new further education teachers and easing paperwork for pupils and staff.
