Maharashtra MLC Election: Polling for Nagpur Bye-Election, 16 Biennial Seats on June 18, Result on June 22
The poll panel said the delayed elections were cleared after local body thresholds were met, with counting set for June 22.
The Election Commission of India announced elections for 17 seats of the Maharashtra Legislative Council on Monday, with polling scheduled for June 18 and vote counting on June 22.
These elections were previously delayed because constituencies failed to meet the requirement that at least 75 per cent of underlying local self-government bodies must be actively functioning; the Election Commission confirmed this threshold has now been crossed.
Formal notification for the MLC elections will be issued on May 25; candidates have until June 1 to file nominations, with the final withdrawal deadline set for June 4.
Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule's resignation from the Nagpur Local Authorities' seat prompted the by-election, where the winner will serve until the term ends on January 1, 2028.
The Model Code of Conduct is now in effect across all affected constituencies, including Solapur, Pune, and Thane, with the election process concluding by June 25.
