Mahadev betting app promoter brought back from Oman, months after arrest in ₹6000 crore money laundering case

CBI said Chandrakar was detained on a Red Corner Notice and faces transit remand before being produced in Raipur.

  • On Sunday, the Central Bureau of Investigation brought Saurabh Chandrakar, promoter of the Mahadev Online Book betting syndicate, back to India from Oman after securing his extradition in a Rs 6,000-crore illegal gambling case.
  • The Mahadev Online Book operated as one of India's largest illegal betting syndicates, routing proceeds through mule bank accounts and hawala channels while paying "protection money to public servants so that the syndicate could operate without hindrance," the CBI said.
  • Royal Oman Police detained Chandrakar following a Red Corner Notice, enabling the CBI and Enforcement Directorate to secure his extradition; this follows the arrest of another kingpin, Abhishek Kumar, at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad last month.
  • Following his arrival, Chandrakar will be medically examined and taken to Raipur after transit remand is obtained, then produced before a CBI Special Judge on Monday to face charges in two cases where chargesheets have already been filed.
  • The CBI described the extradition as a "significant milestone" against fugitives, noting the case gained prominence in 2023 when Chandrakar's lavish Rs 200-crore wedding in Dubai featured private jets and Bollywood celebrities as guests.
