The quake was classified as an induced earthquake, meaning it was caused by human activity rather than natural geological processes.
The Drenthe village of Eleveld was struck by an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.0 during the night from Friday to Saturday, the KNMI reports based on automated measurements. Earlier, the meteorological institute stated that it was an earthquake with a magnitude of 2.9, but this was later revised. The quake occurred at 02:14 in the village in the municipality of Aa en Hunze, just southeast of Assen.
