Magic Reveals 38 Marvel Cards That Actually Have Me Excited
Wizards of the Coast previewed 38 cards including heroes, villains, and reprints with comic-variant art for the Magic: The Gathering Marvel Super Heroes set releasing next June.
- Wizards of the Coast used its WeeklyMTG show to tease 38 new Marvel Super Heroes cards, mixing new hero and villain designs with comic-art reprints for booster and collector packs.
- The Marvel Super Heroes set is due next June and timed with the Avengers' theatrical return and Doomsday's year-end debut, though earlier this year some observers were unimpressed.
- Bruce Banner appears as a 1/1 blue creature who transforms into the Incredible Hulk through Enrage, Captain America is shown as a 3/2 white creature with a shield counter, and Doctor Doom arrives as a 3/3 villain generating Doombot tokens.
- Wizards reprinted Heroic Intervention with hexproof and indestructible in three Marvel variants, making it extremely powerful in Commander and typically trading around $11 or $12 on TCGPlayer, so opening one in boosters next year would be notable.
- The set's Saga cards include The Coming of Galactus Saga, producing a 16/16 Elder Alien that destroys lands, some full-art reprints use Bob Layton's Secret Wars #4 art, and staples like Ephemerate as Monica Rambeau are reimagined.
