Mae Martin to host Junos and celebrate Canada’s ‘bastion of sanity’ amid U.S. tensions
Mae Martin will be the first non-binary solo host since 2009, leading the 55th Juno Awards celebrating Canadian music and culture with top performances and honors.
- On March 29, Mae Martin, comedian, actor, writer and musician, will host the Juno Awards in Hamilton at the TD Coliseum, airing live on CBC platforms at 8 p.m. ET.
- Amid strained Canada–U.S. relations, Martin said, `I think the worse things get around us, the more we rally together and realize that we actually do have a really distinct cultural identity.`
- Daniel Caesar will receive the International Achievement Award and perform during the telecast, Joni Mitchell will get a lifetime achievement honour, and Billy Talent will be recognised at the March 28 gala.
- Venues across Hamilton will host JunoFest lead-up shows featuring numerous performers, while only Canadian citizens or permanent residents are eligible and new categories include Latin music recording of the year.
- Coming off their 2024 Canadian Screen Awards hosting and Wayward last year, Mae Martin will be the first non-binary and first comedian solo host since Russell Peters, aiming for a loose, live-music vibe.
