Uganda Police Say Suspect Kills 4 Children at Kampala Nursery School

Police said the suspect was arrested and the motive remains under investigation after witnesses said he posed as a parent to enter the school.

  • On Thursday, a man disguised as a parent killed four children at the Gaba Early Childhood Development Program in Kampala, Uganda, police said. The suspect attacked the juveniles after briefly engaging the administrator.
  • According to the Daily Monitor, the attacker used a sharp object to commit the assault after locking the school gate, before a security guard from a nearby church intervened. The area is described as an upmarket suburb.
  • The Uganda Police Force stated on X that the motive behind the killings remains under investigation. The victims were between ages two and three, the Daily Monitor reported.
  • To prevent the suspect from being lynched, police fired into the air to disperse an angry crowd gathered near the school; police spokesman Kituuma Rusoke confirmed the suspect was taken into custody. Local broadcaster NTV aired footage showing weeping parents.
  • Such violence is rare in Kampala, a city of roughly 3 million people, where journalist Erich Mboowa reported the quick apprehension of the suspect prevented mob action. The community continues to process the tragedy at the Gaba school.
