M&S Buys Asos Warehouse Amid Plans to Double Online Sales
The 437,000-square-foot site is set to become one of M&S’s largest distribution centres and support its goal to double online sales.
Marks & Spencer agreed on Monday to buy a 437,000 square foot warehouse from Asos in Lichfield, Staffordshire, creating 600 jobs and establishing one of its largest distribution centres when it opens in 2027.
Asos previously mothballed the site in 2023 to reduce stock and costs, while M&S aims to double its online fashion, home, and beauty sales through the acquisition.
Proceeds from the sale will give Asos at least £66 million, with annual cost savings around £6 million and a one-off profit boost of about £85 million expected by end of August.
John Lyttle, managing director for fashion, home and beauty, noted the 24/7 distribution network needs more capacity to serve customers faster and improve availability.
Remaining warehouses in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, and Berlin will provide Asos sufficient capacity for future growth, while the disposal strengthens its balance sheet and capital efficiency.
