Lyft driver accused of using AI to fake damage, leading to $75 charge for the passenger
Lyft acknowledged an AI-generated damage photo, refunded the $75 fee and blocked the driver after the family disputed the charge.
- On Saturday, Boca Raton resident Bert Gore received a fraud alert from his bank for a $75 damage fee charged by Lyft after his teen daughters were accused of leaving a mess in a vehicle.
- The Lyft driver alleged the girls spilled food and drinks, using an image as proof that was later identified as AI-altered by the family.
- When Gore's daughters examined the proof, they discovered a Google Gemini logo in the corner, revealing the image was AI-generated and could not be authentic.
- Lyft refunded the $75 and blocked the driver from the app after acknowledging the image was AI-generated, following the family's report of the logo.
- Gore cautioned others on the Abacoa Community Facebook page, stating, "If you're not paying attention to this and you know, you're getting charged $75, I mean, you know, it can really add up.
