Luke Combs Receives Honorary Degree From Appalachian State
The university said the honor recognizes his record-breaking career and more than $24 million raised for Hurricane Helene relief.
On Thursday, May 7, 2026, Luke Combs received an honorary music degree from Appalachian State University during the spring commencement ceremony held at the Holmes Convocation Center.
Before achieving global fame, Combs attended App State from 2008 to 2012, leaving with only 21 credit hours remaining when he departed to pursue his country music career in Nashville.
Beyond his musical achievements, the university recognized his philanthropic work, including raising over $24 million for Hurricane Helene relief through the Concert for Carolina and his advocacy for veterans.
"In every sense, Luke Combs represents the character and heart of a Mountaineer," App State Chancellor Heather Norris said, noting his story inspires students to dream big and work hard.
Since rising to stardom, the North Carolinian has maintained close ties to campus, including a 2022 visit, and earned recognition as one of TIME Magazine's TIME100 Most Influential People globally.
