- The closure adds to unwelcome attention after last month's heist of crown jewels worth more than $100 million, and a Court of Auditors criticised managers for spending 105.4m on acquisitions and 63.5m on exhibitions.
- Louvre director Laurence des Cars warned in January of a `proliferation of damage in museum spaces, some of which are in very poor condition`, complicating repairs amid 8.7 million visitors in 2024, with modernization listed as a priority.
