Locals in Austrian selfie hotspot protest against overtourism

Residents are getting tired of dealing with up to 10,000 visitors a day and in late August blocked the road leading to the village. A replica of the village was built in China about a decade ago.

It is one of the most photographed places in Austria. And also one of the most visited. But residents of the picturesque Hallstatt in the Salzkammergut have already run out of patience with tourists corralling the streets in massive numbers. The municipality therefore plans to introduce a reservation system as it can no longer accommodate hordes of visitors.
