The Flossmoor Village Board on June 16 approved a 1% local grocery tax effective Jan. 1, 2026. This local tax is a response to the repeal of the state’s 1% statewide grocery tax effective Jan. 1. State law HB3144, which eliminates the state grocery tax gave local governments the choice to implement their own local tax on groceries. Anticipating loss in revenue when the state repeals its grocery tax beginning Jan. 1 of next year, the Village of Plainfield is taking steps to make sure the coffers remain full. The Plainfield Village Board on Monday implemented the village’s own grocery tax at 1 percent, which is the same as the state.
