Uncertainty over designated mining projects: "Could become guinea pigs"

Talga and LKAB have been given the green light by the EU. But much is unclear about how the designated mining projects will receive a permit within 27 months. “The risk is that the projects in the first round will become guinea pigs,” says Maria Sunér, CEO of the mining industry association Svemin.

LKAB's rare earth mining project has been classified as a strategic project for critical raw materials by the European Commission and can therefore receive help in securing additional financing. Two other Swedish projects are also on the list.
