Ex-Celtic Boss John Barnes Reveals Private Prostate Cancer Battle
Barnes said his children urged him to get checked, leading to surgery and treatment after a prostate cancer diagnosis.
Former Celtic manager John Barnes revealed he experienced prostate cancer, confirming he is now "fine" after undergoing surgery and treatment.
Urged by his children, Barnes sought medical advice, and he now hopes his disclosure will help break the stigma surrounding men's health.
The former Watford and Newcastle United man supports government screening trials for black men between 45 and 74, noting around 12,000 men die of the disease in the United Kingdom annually.
Within less than 24 hours, fellow former Liverpool midfielder Kevin Keegan revealed his cancer diagnosis, while Kenny Dalglish confirmed he is also undergoing treatment.
Addressing the health taboo, Barnes emphasized "not many people know" about his condition, encouraging awareness by noting prostate cancer is "more prevalent" in black men.
