The flow of migrants who illegally entered Latvia from Belarus and were later detained in Lithuania and Poland has increased two and a half times. The Lithuanian Ministry of Internal Affairs, after announcing the decision to reinstate border controls in Poland, presented statistics for the past six months.
Eight Lithuanian border guards are heading to Latvia to help their colleagues secure the border with Belarus, the State Border Guard Service (SBS) announced on Wednesday. “It is planned that this group of Lithuanian border guards will carry out border monitoring, prevention of illegal migration from Belarus and other border protection-related actions in the most problematic sections, coordinated by Latvian colleagues,” the statement reads.
Employees of the Lithuanian police and the State Border Guard Service of Lithuania went to Latvia in order to strengthen the fight against illegal migration from Belarus. — Ukrinform.
