- On Sunday, Lindsey Vonn crashed early in the Olympic women's downhill in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, and was airlifted after nearly 20 minutes of on-slope treatment as the race was halted.
- Racing on a badly injured left knee, Lindsey Vonn had revealed five days earlier that she had `completely ruptured` her ACL after crashing in Switzerland last week where she was diagnosed with bone bruising.
- About seconds into her run, she cut the line on the opening traverse, lost control, was spun in the air, hit the firm snow face-first, and then rolled with her skis still attached as medical personnel responded.
- The race was halted as Breezy Johnson held the early lead by 0.04 seconds over Germany's Emma Aicher, and fans gave a standing ovation while Alan Kildow watched from the stands.
- Already leading the World Cup downhill standings, Vonn returned in December 2024 after retiring in 2019 and had undergone an April 2024 surgery, making her a top contender before her crash.
