Lens Moves 1 Point Behind PSG in French Title Race After Beating Metz 3-0. Lyon Faces Paris FC
Lens capitalized on PSG's home loss to Monaco by winning 3-0 over Metz with key goals from Thauvin, Abdulhamid, and Haidara, narrowing the Ligue 1 gap to one point.
On Sunday, Lens beat Metz 3-0 to move one point behind PSG in the Ligue 1 title race, as Abdulhamid, Thauvin, and Haidara scored.
PSG's 3-1 home defeat to AS Monaco on Friday opened the door for Lens, which had reached the French Cup semifinals on Thursday by beating Lyon on penalties.
Saud Abdulhamid opened the scoring with a powerful half-volley before halftime, teamed with Adrien Thomasson to set up Florian Thauvin, and Amadou Haidara completed the win in the 52nd after a one-two with Matthieu Udol.
There are nine games left in Ligue 1 and Lens will host PSG on April 11, tightening the title race after PSG's loss to Monaco and Lens's win.
Thauvin, back from a long spell out, is pushing for a World Cup spot as his Lens form helps him re-enter France's national team.
The Sang et Or remained on two games without a championship victory before winning on Sunday against the Messins at Stade Bollaert-Dellelis. The Artesians thus revived the race for the title.
