- On Tuesday, Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee endorsed Charlie Hatcher in the Republican primary for Tennessee's 5th Congressional District, challenging incumbent Rep. Andy Ogles.
- Lee said he has known Hatcher for 25 years through their farming and business backgrounds. Hatcher, a fifth-generation dairy farmer, served as Agriculture Commissioner for seven years in Lee's administration.
- The Invest in Tomorrow Coalition has spent about $2 million on advertisements supporting Hatcher while criticizing Ogles' congressional record. The race pits the incumbent aligned with the House Freedom Caucus against a former cabinet official.
- Voters head to the polls this Thursday to decide the primary contest. While Hatcher promises to support President Donald Trump's agenda, Trump has endorsed Ogles, who is seeking a third term.
- The primary winner will advance to the November general election, where the GOP is favored to hold the seat. As of Monday, Decision Desk HQ gives the GOP a 95 percent chance against Democratic challenger Chaz Molder.
