Confusion in Lebanon over US-Iran Deal
An agreement between the United States and Iran promises to end military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon, yet Lebanese officials stated Monday they were not informed of the specific terms.
Since March 2, the conflict has caused mass destruction, leaving more than 1.2 million displaced as Israel's military continues to occupy large swathes of southern Lebanon.
While some residents began returning home Monday, Lebanese political analyst Qassem Kassir expressed skepticism, noting Israel's Defence Minister Israel Katz indicated troops would remain in security zones without a time limit.
Hezbollah has not commented on the agreement or claimed fresh attacks, but state media reported an Israeli drone strike killed a driver in southern Lebanon on Monday, indicating ongoing fragility.
Long-Lasting security requires Israel's withdrawal, the return of displaced people, and a national defence plan addressing current polarization regarding Hezbollah's role, according to analysts monitoring the fragile situation.
The agreement reached between Iran and the US was signed by President Donald Trump, Vice President Vance, and Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammed Bagher Ghalibaf. A senior US official told Reuters on Monday.
