The Hungarian bottle return system has once again come into the spotlight. This time, the debate is about whether the cash payment option should be eliminated, while more and more municipalities are looking for a solution to the situation due to the bottle collection in Budapest.
The Ministry for the Living Environment (ÉKFM) does not agree with the MOHU proposal, which would eliminate cash payments at bottle return machines. The ministry, led by László Gajdos, stated in response to Telex's inquiry that cash reimbursement of the return fee is a fundamental element of the system, from which they do not intend to deviate.
