Police Arrest Alleged Gunman Who Shot at Driver that Crashed Into East Hollywood Crowd
EAST HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, AUG 4 – Efrain Villalobos was arrested and faces felony charges after shooting Fernando Ramirez, who drove into a crowd injuring 37 people outside an East Hollywood nightclub.
- On August 3, Los Angeles police apprehended 28-year-old Efrain Villalobos in Redondo Beach; he is accused of shooting Fernando Ramirez, the motorist who drove into a group of people near a nightclub in East Hollywood.
- The shooting occurred after Ramirez drove his vehicle into a group of 37 pedestrians outside the Vermont Hollywood club on July 19, and when bystanders pulled him from the car and began attacking him, Villalobos approached and fired at Ramirez, hitting him in the lower back.
- Ramirez, 29, who has an extensive criminal record and was on parole at the time of the incident, is charged with attempted murder for each of the 37 individuals injured in the crash, while Villalobos is facing serious felony allegations related to the shooting.
- District Attorney Nathan Hochman stated that the 74 charges reflect the injuries sustained by the 37 victims, and Ramirez remains detained on $37 million bail while recovering from his gunshot injury.
