Keralam: Bilaspur–Tirunelveli Express Locomotive Derails After Landslide Near Parassala
Southern Railway said passengers and staff are safe as restoration crews work to clear the line after the landslide.
On Thursday, October 22, 2026, a landslide near Parassala station derailed the locomotive of the Bilaspur-Tirunelveli Express, disrupting train services in the Neyyattinkara-Parassala section.
The India Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for Thiruvananthapuram district on Wednesday, warning of very heavy rainfall that triggered minor landslips at two locations along the railway line.
Southern Railway reported delays for the Kanniyakumari-Mangaluru Central Parasuram Express and the Thiruvananthapuram Central-Tambaram Express, while other trains were held at Eraniel and Nanguneri.
Passengers and railway staff are safe, and the railway utilized a relief locomotive to bring coaches to Neyyattinkara, dispatching passengers by road to various locations.
Railway authorities confirm train services have been restored after necessary safety inspections, following successful rerailing and removal of the derailed locomotive.
