Strong 7-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes China’s Tibet Region
China’s earthquake agency said the 7.0-magnitude quake was felt locally, with no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
A 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck northern Tibet's Nagqu county on Thursday at a depth of 10km, the China Earthquake Networks Center reported.
The epicenter, situated about 4,864m above sea level, was located approximately 400km from the Tibetan capital of Lhasa.
Local residents clearly felt the tremors, according to CENC; the National Center for Seismology separately recorded a depth of 173km for the same event.
Authorities have reported no immediate information regarding casualties or infrastructure damage resulting from Thursday's earthquake.
Occurring weeks after deadly flash floods triggered by an ice-rock avalanche near the Nepal-Tibet border, the quake highlights natural disaster vulnerability throughout the Himalayan region.
The epicenter of the earthquake, which was recorded at 22.33 (local time), was located about 190 kilometers east-northeast of Nagqu and 390 kilometers north-east of Lhasa
An earthquake of magnitude 7 took place on Thursday evening in China, in the Tibet region, according to the US geophysical institute USGS, and no casualties were reported immediately, reports AFP.
