Sir Winston Churchill painting on show in UK first
Exhibition highlights Churchill’s creative resilience with over 500 artworks and personal items, including his painting coat and glasses, loaned by the Beaverbrook Canadian Foundation.
- On Saturday, Quiet Waters will be central to an exhibition opening at Chartwell, Kent, organised by the National Trust, running until November 1.
- Churchill turned to painting as a refuge from public life, with Katherine Carter, property curator at Chartwell, saying `the muse of painting came to my rescue` to cope with pressure.
- Among the exhibits are his steel-framed glasses and white cotton coat, on loan from the Beaverbrook Canadian Foundation, gifted to Lord Beaverbrook in 1959.
