Lammy says Vance agrees that sexualised AI images on X are ‘despicable’
JD Vance agrees with UK officials that Grok's sexualised AI image manipulations, including child abuse content, are unacceptable amid pending regulatory and legal actions.
- Earlier this week, Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy said JD Vance told him Grok's sexualised image manipulation was `entirely unacceptable` and he raised deepfakes of women and children as `absolutely abhorrent`.
- Grok, xAI's chatbot, produced images including child‑abuse content and manipulated photos, and on Friday X appeared to limit some image manipulation to paid subscribers.
- Ofcom has opened an `expedited assessment` of X and xAI and can fine firms up to 18 million or 10% of global revenue, Liz Kendall said.
- Cross-Border political pressure grew as allies and lawmakers reacted, with Elon Musk accusing the UK Government of being `fascist` and Anna Paulina Luna threatening sanctions if X were blocked.
- In the coming weeks, powers to criminalise intimate-image creation would come into force and the Crime and Policing Bill would ban nudification apps, while regulators can order payment providers, advertisers and internet service providers to cut ties with non-compliant sites.
