Labour reports alleged hack of Nigel Farage’s phone and bank by Russia to police
Labour says the alleged phishing attack could involve hostile state actors and a £5 million donation, as police and cyber officials review the claims.
On Friday, Labour Party Chair Anna Turley formally reported the alleged hacking of Nigel Farage's accounts to the Metropolitan Police and National Cyber Security Centre , citing national security concerns and requesting a thorough investigation.
Reform sources claimed on Sunday that 'counter-espionage experts' identified Russian 'spear phishing' tactics compromising Farage's devices, allegations that emerged after public controversy over a £5 million donation from crypto-entrepreneur Christopher Harborne.
Farage previously described the £5 million sum as a 'reward for campaigning for Brexit for 27 years' and denied it was political. The undeclared payment prompted an investigation by the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards into potential rule breaches.
Labour has demanded Reform provide evidence of the alleged hack, while former National Cyber Security Centre head Ciaran Martin called Farage's account 'entirely unsubstantiated.' Reform declined further comment pending investigation.
Parliamentary rules require MPs to register financial interests received within 12 months of election. The investigation continues into whether Farage failed to disclose the gift, which he maintains was 'purely private.
