Kuwait Petroleum Corp reports damage at units after Iran drone attack
Kuwaiti officials said the strikes caused fires and major damage, while two electricity generation units were knocked offline and no casualties were reported.
On April 5, 2026, Iranian drones and missiles struck multiple Kuwaiti sites, including the Shuwaikh Oil Sector Complex and power and water desalination plants, causing fires and material damage with no casualties reported.
Following a Feb. 28 U.S.-Israeli air offensive, Iran launched these strikes after United States President Donald Trump issued a 48-hour ultimatum regarding the Strait of Hormuz, which Tehran publicly rejected.
The Kuwait Petroleum Corporation stated the attack resulted in "fires breaking out in several of those facilities, leading to significant material losses, with no human injuries recorded." Kuwait's government described the damage as "hostile Iranian aggression."
Emergency teams contained fires, while the Kuwaiti Electricity Ministry shut down two power units to conduct repairs. Authorities transitioned employees to remote work on Sunday, with plans to resume in-person operations on Monday.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that attacks near the Bushehr nuclear power plant risk radioactive contamination, as these strikes signify an expansion of the regional conflict that has killed more than 1,340 people since late February.
