NBA player Kristaps Porzingis announces he is stepping away to address health concerns
Porzingis said his body did not respond as expected and that he will work with Golden State on a solution, leaving his return uncertain.
On Friday, Golden State Warriors center Kristaps Porzingis announced he is stepping away from the team to prioritize his health, writing: "I've made the decision to prioritize my health and step away from the game I love."
Lingering effects from postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome have sidelined the 31-year-old for the entire season; Porzingis noted his body "didn't respond the way I anticipated" when attempting to ramp up activity.
Golden State had hoped the former All-Star, signed to a two-year, $40 million agreement this summer, would provide another dimension alongside Stephen Curry, but ongoing health concerns prevented his season debut.
The Warriors announced in October that he would remain sidelined indefinitely, leaving considerable uncertainty surrounding his basketball future with the organization.
Winning the 2024 NBA Finals with the Boston Celtics, Porzingis contributed to the 106-88 victory against the Dallas Mavericks in Game Five at the Garden, earning a permanent place in franchise history.
