Kremlin says Ukraine is now 'paying the price' for its own attacks on Russia
The Kremlin said Russian forces will keep striking targets in Ukraine as talks with the United States and China remain stalled.
- On Monday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that arms control talks with the United States were "long overdue," while warning Ukraine would "pay a price" for recent attacks on Russian territory.
- Escalating Ukrainian strikes on logistics warehouses and refineries throughout 2026 prompted the Kremlin's warning, forcing Russia to import automobile fuel and straining domestic supplies.
- Peskov confirmed Russian armed forces retain latitude to strike targets they "consider appropriate," with recent attacks hitting civilian infrastructure including trains, educational institutions, and four data centers across Ukraine.
- Regarding President Donald Trump's call for trilateral arms control, Peskov noted Beijing has repeatedly declined to participate, asserting its nuclear arsenal is significantly smaller than those of Russia and the United States.
- Despite stating negotiations should have restarted "yesterday," the Kremlin maintains that differences over the conflict in Ukraine prevent a meaningful diplomatic reset between Moscow and Washington.
