SCHLADMING, Austria (AP) — Loic Meillard won the last men’s giant slalon test in the World Cup before the Olympic Games, denying Lucas Pinheiro Braathen what would have been the second victory for Brazil. Pinheiro Braathen had a slight advantage over Meillard after Tuesday’s initial series, but could not maintain his advantage after the Swiss skier recorded the second best time in the last series. Swiss Loic Meillard is the winner of the giant slalom for the Alpine Skiing World Cup in Schladming. Brazilian Lucas Pinheiro Braathen, the leader after the first run, finished second in the final (+0.73), with Frenchman Alban Elezi Cannaferina third (+0.90). Slovenian Žan Kranjec won 13th place (2.54) in the last giant slalom before the Olympic Games.

Schladming’s double nightly appointment, today with the giant and tomorrow with the slalon, marks the pause in these trials for men before the Games of Cortina d’Ampezzo are launched.
