- On Sunday, KPop Demon Hunters won Best Animated Feature at the 98th Academy Awards in Hollywood, California, defeating Arco, Elio, Little Amélie or the Character of Rain, and Zootopia 2.
- Directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans and produced by Michelle and Wong, the Netflix blockbuster blends Korean mythology with K-pop idol culture. It emerged as the streamer's most-watched original animated film, marking a major milestone for South Korean creatives.
- The film's soundtrack, led by the Grammy-winning hit Golden, landed eight songs on the Billboard Hot 100. Kang became the first director of South Korean descent to win Best Animated Feature Film at the Oscars.
- During her acceptance speech, Kang apologized to "those of you who look like me" for the long delay in representation. "This is for Korea and for Koreans everywhere," she said, as HUNTR/X's singing voices reacted in the audience.
- Ahead of the ceremony, Netflix announced a sequel with Kang and Appelhans returning to direct and write. The follow-up marks the first project under their new exclusive multi-year deal with the streamer, aiming for 2029 release.
