Ibrahima Konate Confirms He Will Stay at Liverpool and Provides Contract Update
The France defender said talks are close to agreement as his contract expires this season and he has been linked with Real Madrid.
Following Liverpool's 2-1 victory over Everton on Sunday, defender Ibrahima Konate said there is a "big chance" he will remain at Anfield next season as the 26-year-old nears a contract extension.
Negotiations between Konate and the club have been ongoing for months, with the defender expressing talks are "in a good way" toward finalizing an agreement.
Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes has managed negotiations, which Konate indicated he discussed with Hughes in September and November before the recent announcement.
With Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson departing this summer, Konate feels responsibility to lead the squad while emphasizing the importance of securing Champions League qualification for next season.
Konate described his deep connection to Anfield's staff and fans as "family," remaining focused on finishing strongly despite a challenging campaign while viewing his story at the club as significant long-term.
