Annual fish fry fundraiser brings North Side community together
- On Friday, March 28, a fire-related cancellation of the Lenten fish fry dinners at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Fergus Falls led Dairyland owners to offer their restaurant for a drive-thru fish fry.
- The fire in January at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church prompted church members Pat and Jean Connelly to ensure the much-loved Lenten fish fry tradition continued.
- Dairyland, a popular restaurant that debuted in 1955, opened early to host the event, where traffic control was implemented to manage the line of cars that stretched for blocks as people sought fish and fellowship.
- Pat Connelly, owner of Dairyland and a member of Our Lady of Victory, recounted serving 550 meals last week and expressed amazement at the community's outpouring of support, stating, "Oh my gosh, just the outpouring of the community, it has nothing to do with us here at Dairyland."
- The drive-thru fish fry event, which saw students attending class in a nearby church since the fire and returning to the OLV school on Monday after cleanup, highlights the community's resilience and dedication to its traditions.
