Hollywood Actor to Play Mushroom Killer Erin Patterson
Melanie Lynskey will executive produce the first scripted series on the case, which covers the 97 days between the lunch and Erin Patterson’s arrest.
On Wednesday, Paramount+ announced 'Mushroom Murders,' a six-part limited drama starring Emmy nominee Melanie Lynskey as convicted killer Erin Patterson based on the notorious 2023 Australian homicide case.
In Leongatha, Victoria, Patterson served a 2023 beef wellington lunch that resulted in the deaths of her in-laws Don and Gail Patterson, and Gail's sister Heather Wilkinson, leading to her conviction.
Produced by Soapbox Pictures, the series covers the 97 days between the lunch and Patterson's arrest, with writers Anya Beyersdorf, Dianne Taylor, and Belinda Chayko and director Daina Reid helming all six episodes.
Paramount Australia vice president Tamara Simoneau said casting international leads helps launch Australian-made projects globally, positioning the drama within the streamer's expanded 'wall-to-wall program slate' announced Wednesday.
Lynskey, currently starring in the final season of 'Yellowjackets,' will serve as executive producer on the project, while Patterson continues appealing her sentence of at least 33 years in prison.
