Callous Woman Ran over Man - and Called Him 'Smackhead'
Murphy admitted causing death by dangerous driving after CCTV showed her driving over Darryl Tomlinson twice and calling him a smackhead.
On Wednesday, Megan Murphy, 26, was sentenced to six years in prison at Bolton Crown Court for causing the death of 31-year-old Darryl Tomlinson through dangerous driving.
Murphy had developed a 'habit' of driving her Citroen DS3 the wrong way down one-way Pembroke Road in Wigan to save time, and drove it with frozen windows on January 9, 2025, when she struck Tomlinson, who had collapsed after a night out.
CCTV footage captured Murphy driving over Tomlinson, reversing, and running over him again before she called him a 'smackhead' while he remained trapped beneath her vehicle, later denying to officers that she had seen him.
North West Ambulance Service and Greater Manchester Police failed to locate Tomlinson after receiving 999 calls due to an incorrectly recorded address, prompting an ongoing investigation into the emergency response failures.
Judge Nicholas Clarke stated the incident was 'entirely avoidable,' emphasizing that motorists must ensure vehicles are safe before setting off, while barrister John Dove described Murphy as a 'hard working and industrious individual.
