Kilkenny Calls Time on Dublin Career
On Monday, Dublin forward Ciarán Kilkenny announced his inter-county retirement less than 24 hours after Sunday's All-Ireland semi-final defeat to Kerry ended his 15-year career with the Dubs.
The 33-year-old secured eight All-Ireland titles, 13 Leinster titles, and six National Leagues over his career, remaining the final starter from Dublin's historic 2015 championship team that began a six-in-a-row dynasty.
Dublin senior football manager Ger Brennan stated Kilkenny "embodied all that is great in a Dublin inter-county footballer," while GAA chairman Ken O'Sullivan praised his role in the county's golden period.
Rejecting a three-year Australian Football League contract with Hawthorn in early 2013, Kilkenny described representing his county as the "greatest honour" of his life and a childhood dream.
Crediting his family and partner Rebekah for their support, Kilkenny emphasized the sense of community the GAA provided, calling it "the greatest organisation in the world" while pledging to cheer Dublin on for many years.
