SAUDI ARABIA, JUL 22 – Stephen Munyakho was released after the victim’s family accepted $1 million in blood money following extensive diplomatic and humanitarian efforts over more than a decade.
- Munyakho’s release was affirmed on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at 10 am under a judicial decree.
- Under Saudi Arabia’s Islamic law, the death sentence can be commuted with blood money; after negotiations, the victim’s family agreed to accept blood money; KSh 129.5 million was paid earlier this year, Kenyan media reported.
