Gov. Brian Kemp Endorses Collins in U.S. Senate Bid to Unseat Ossoff: "A Different Direction"
Kemp said Collins has delivered results as a businessman and Washington leader as polls show Ossoff ahead by 7.8 points, according to Real Clear Politics.
On Monday, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp endorsed Republican Congressman Mike Collins for U.S. Senate, stating Collins "has delivered results as a businessman and commonsense leader in Washington."
Kemp previously supported Derek Dooley in the primary, arguing the race needed an outsider to challenge Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff, but Collins defeated Dooley 55% to 44% in the June runoff.
With 50 days until the November 3 election, Ossoff leads the Real Clear Politics polling average by 7.8%, with support at 50.8% compared to 43% for Collins.
Ossoff campaign spokesperson Valeria Rivadeneira-Crandell called the endorsement a "last-ditch effort" for a "collapsing campaign," characterizing Kemp's timing as politically desperate.
Early voting begins across Georgia on Oct. 13, nearly one month after Kemp's endorsement, with the general election scheduled for Nov. 3.
