Leavitt said Zacharia’s job was not for her after a 14-minute debut briefing drew scrutiny over her preparation and credentials.
On Wednesday, Former White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt criticized successor Katie Zacharia, saying the press secretary job "obviously was not for her" after Zacharia exited following just five days.
Zacharia's tenure faced immediate scrutiny after an uncomfortable October 13 debut in the James S. Brady Press Briefing Room, where she took only three questions in 14 minutes, followed by controversy over misrepresenting herself as a lawyer despite failing the California bar exam.
President Donald Trump confirmed on October 16 he advised Zacharia to consider stepping down, noting she had been treated "very rough" by the media; Leavitt emphasized the role requires extensive preparation and toughness.
Leavitt, who will join Fox News as an on-air contributor beginning November, stated she is assisting the president in identifying a replacement who is "tough" and understands his policies.
The White House has not announced a timeline for selecting a permanent replacement; reports suggest a decision may not occur until after the November 3 midterm elections, leaving the press secretary position vacant.
